The goal here is to identify the essential elements of codes of conduct which make them effective and to create a general Code of Ethics and Practice. This is for Dharma teachers and students to provide clear guidelines for the student-teacher relationship and for organisations to ensure safe environments where people can report problems concerning any member of the community. Teachers’ codes of conduct can be considered as similar to guidelines for professional bodies such as counsellors. It is important to set standards for safe environments and teaching practices which benefit all members of a Buddhist community.

This will be developed in association with as wide a group of interested parties as possible, and we are keen to work with other groups who have a similar goal.
